Your relationship with God is very personal, yet there are Biblical truths about becoming right with God that apply to all people everywhere. The following Biblical truths will help anyone who wants to belong to God, or to be saved, or to know how to enter into His family, or perhaps even to realize that they are already part of it.
- No one can become a Christian without being converted. (Matthew 18:3) To be converted means “to turn around” that is, one’s whole attitude and philosophy about God and the way to approach Him must change. One’s whole concept of God must begin to match that which is revealed in the scriptures.
- One must Hear the good news, (1Cor. 15:1-4) for faith comes by hearing. (Gal. 3:2,5; Romans 10:17)
- One must Repent i.e. change your mind about Christ and about sin. (Mark 1:15; Acts 26:20)
- One must Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 3:16; John 5:24; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9-10)
- One must Confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord; to God and to people. (Romans 10:9-10)
- One must Receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (John 1:12-13), and Call upon Jesus in prayer, asking Him to save you. Tell Him that you believe He died on the cross for your sins and that you trust Him and take Him to be your Savior. Purposefully make this life commitment to Him. If you have come to God in this way rest assured that you are a child of God. Know that your sins are forgiven and that you have eternal life. (Colossians 1:14; John 5:11-13) Then just as Christ said, be baptized (immersed) in water and begin living His way of love by keeping His commands.(Matthew 28:19-20) The Christian life is not that good works produce salvation. Rather, it is salvation that produces good works. (Ephesians 2:10; Romans 4:5) We are indeed saved apart from works but not by a faith that is without works. (James 2:20; Acts 26:20) A person is saved by grace (God’s gift) through a faith commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. All who do this have been given the wonderful gift of salvation, birth from above, forgiveness of sin, and eternal life as a child of God.
- Now that you are a Christian, it is vital to remain true to Him. (Acts 11:23) Whenever you sin, and you will, turn from it in repentance and confess to God, and to others it has affected, that you were wrong. When you do so be assured that you are forgiven. (1 John 1:9; 1 John 2:12)
- Christians were never meant to go it alone. It is important for every Christian to be encouraged by being actively involved in a local church . (Hebrews 10:25) This is how Christians function and grow as a member of the body of Christ. (1 Corinthians, Chapter 12)
